STANZA 1

                                    DASAKAM 88

Stanza 1

You, because of their mother’s request, went to the netherworld

          and brought to life Vasudeva’s sons, killed by Kamsa,

and happily  handed over by Bali, and after showing them,

          led them to their old positions.

Stanza 2

You, along with many saints,

           went to Mithila, in order to bless both

the King Bahulaashwa, and

            the brahmin, Shruthadeva,

Stanza 3

JAssuming two bodies, You enjoyed, with one body,

              the sumptuous feast in the king’s palace, and, with the other,

ate the food, prepared from vegetables gathered the same day,

              and, equally pleased with both, taught the way to Moksha happly.

Stanza 4

in Dwaraka, You dismissed a brahmin’s wails

            at the death of his seven sons, saying,”

Who can withstand Time !.”; I think, in order  to

           remove Arjuna’s misconception of Your human nature,

Stanza 5

When his eight sons had been lost, arose the blaming of Your inability  

          to protect the people, and at that time, Arjuna came, and stayed, ,

when, hearing the  ninth son’s death, made a  vow, saying,

         “ I will enter fire, if I don’t bring back the son.”.

Stanza 6

Arjuna proudly, without telling You, covered the

            house of delivery, with arrows,     

and when the son was seen for a minute and

             disappeared immediately,  

and went, by his Yogic powers, to the worlds of Yama,      

            other gods, and could not get an inkling of where the boy was.

was ready to burn himself, when You

             stopped him with a smile.

Stanza 7

Then, getting into a chariot, along with Arjuna,

             You passed all the worlds,

and entering an area of darkness,

              dispelled it by the light

of Sudarshana wheel,

              and telling him, “ See, see”, showed

Your wonderful world,

              on the shore of the seas!.

Stanza 8

You prostrated before Yourself,

            sitting on Anantha,

wearing divine ornaments,

           dressed in yellow clothes,

dark like fresh rain clouds,

           the sole truth of all

scriptures, along with

            Your dear friend.

Stanza 9

You told, “  I wanted to see You,

            You two are My own selves,

but very different, not seen

              for a long time, and hid the boys

in order  to see you,  

              take them quickly. “ and

offered them to you

              and You gave the Brahmin his son.

Stanza 10

Thus entertaining the  world with many acts,

                 increasing the prosperity of Vrishnus,

performing several kinds of sacrifices,

                  making the girls happy with various pleasantries,

You lived for a long time,

                   in the form of a man,

born for destroying the evil-minded people

                  who laid a heavy burden on the earth!.

Stanza 11

Those days, almost always, Narada,

               Your great devotee,

lived in Dwaraka, and from him,

           your father learned the Bhaktiyogam,

and Udhhawa, Your supreme devotee,

            learned, from Yourself, all knowledge,

and he lives in Badami,

             for the benefit of people.

Stanza 12

Hail this incarnation of Yours,

            when all the people obtained easily

the supreme world of Yours, by feelings

             like friendship, fear, love, and other ways!.

Kindly save me from all diseases, my Lord!.
