DASAKOM 89

STANZA 1

                                           DASAKAM 89
                                          ——————-
Stanza 1
I know that prosperity is not easily obtainable
by those, who have no self control, because of
creating excessive pride; so that You give prosperity
only after they get control over themselves.
Stanza 2
Those who worship gods,
who are easily pleased,  and easily angered,
like Brahma,and  Shiva, fall into depths of misery;
           a good example is Vrikaasura.
Stanza 3
Once. he asked Narada,
“ Who is quickly pleased “,
and he suggested Lord Shiva, not You,
who never gives power to the bad.
Stanza 4
Performing terrible penances,
he impatiently attempted to cut off his head,
and, when He appeared,
              asked a very petty boon,
that of killing by placing
               a hand on the head;
how any good from those
who are not devoted to You!.
Stanza 5
Lord Shiva, whom the Asura pursued, like a lion,
let out of a cage, running after the liberator,
fled in fear, looking back here and there,
and with the whole world watching breathlessly,
You saw , from a distance,
              Him coming to Your place,
and stood in the form
              of a brahmin boy.
Stanza 6
The. Asura fell down dead, when he placed his hand
            on his own head,
following Your words that
“ Why be deceived by a devil’s words, if you doubt me,
test by touching your head ?.
          Hearing these words of Yours,
He placed his hand on his head,
           and fell down dead.
Stanza 7
Once the sages, residing near the bank of Saraswathy,
            asked Bhrigu to find out
the best of the three incarnations of  God,
           went to Brahma, who controlled
his rising anger at disrespect , and then
to Lord Shiva, who threatened to kill
and  had to be prevented by SreeParvathy,
and ultimately got to Your place.
 Stanza. 8
 When the Brahmin kicked You,
sleeping in the lap of Goddess Lakshmi,
You rose up smiling, and apologised saying,
“ Excuse all my faults, I will
always wear this mark
of your foot, as an  ornament .
Stanza 9
They decided that
            You were the perfect incarnation,
and went on worshiping You,
            and got Moksha;
we worship You and You alone,
the essence of all that is good.
Stanza 10
I worship You, sung like by court musicians,
by scriptures, at the beginning of creation,
the Universal Soul, the cowherd girls’ gain,
for the alleviation of all diseases, my Lord!.
